Whats life without makeup? Makeup is everything. The point of wearing it is to accentuate your best features and diminish the features we don’t like so much. To look beautiful! Who doesn’t want to look flawless everyday? One of the cool things about makeup is there is so many different ways to do it and so many different looks that can be created. They say less is more and that statement is true for the most part, depending what look you are going for. “the undone but done” look is definitely trending something serious this year spring 2018 fashion week had two interesting looks that stood out. BOLD eyeliner. Then the undone but done look. We all want to wear makeup but make it look natural. We want it to look real. Applying makeup the correct way is extremely critical for a flawless look. The right products for each persons skin type is also so very vital in creating the perfect look for each person. Some people have oiler skin than others, some people may have super dry skin, then their is the people like myself that have combination skin. Combination skin basically means that your in between both oily and dry. In the t zone, the nose area and under eye area, combination skin types are more likely to get blackheads but typically the rest of the face is clear of blemishes. Identifying what skin type you have will help to determine what foundation is right for you and will benefit you the most. For instance, if you have dry skin you want more of an oil based foundation to help moisturize the skin while wearing it. ITS ALSO SUPER IMPORTANT TO BE REMOVING THE MAKEUP FROM THE FACE EACH NIGHT BEFORE BED!!!! Each day you sleep with your makeup on it ages you 3 extra days. Not all products that work well are actually good for your skin. Think about it.. makeup sits on the outer most layer of your skin but the longer it sits on for, the skin absorbs the chemicals that is in the makeup. Which now gets into further layers of the skin! Now with knowing this information you can infer that the deeper the chemicals get into your skin that don’t belong will start to cause blemishes. The clearer the skin the more beautiful the application will be. How good your makeup looks depends on how well you take care of your skin. Making sure to clean your face every night will help to ensure less breakouts. Exfoliating often will also help to ensure that you are removing all dead skin cells on the outer layer of your face. finding a good foundation with SPF in it is only beneficial to the skin! The sun is damaging, as much as its good for you too much sun exposure is damaging and ages the skin because of the A- rays it gives off. So to help avoid this using serums at night to help rejuvenate the skin will one help to moisturize and two help prevent aging. The better your skincare routine is the younger you will look. Using the right brushes on the right part of your face is helpful when blending countours. If the brush is to big the contour will start to expand into areas where you don’t want it to be. So using correct brushes is also something to keep in mind. Cleaning your brushes often is another way to avoid breakouts. There so many different ways to do makeup. You must keep in mind depending on what your doing AKA editorial makeup, film makeup, runway makeup, all have so many different factors in each process. If your doing runway makeup you must remember people are seeing the makeup from a distance so using more would be more appropriate, along with that you must keep in mind the color of the lights for the show. For example if the lights are blue if you use more cool tones on the face its going to wash the model out. If the lights are blue you must use your color theory knowledge and use more of an orange based foundation for a more natural look under the blue lights it will cancel it out to look neutral. Now film makeup is similar, once again, where you must take into consideration the backgrounds of where the filming is being done. The lighting, the camera. All of these factors come into play with what someones face will look like. The makeup could look completely perfect in person but once its on camera if not done properly for film will look like a disaster. A lot of women like to just put it on quick and go about their day, but then theirs women who are really super into detailing their face to perfection! Practice makes perfect the more work you do the better results you will start seeing to all aspiring makeup artists. My advice to all is to play play play! Get your hands on everything and anything and play around with it. Personally when it comes to a craft like that you must actually do it to figure out how to get better and what works what doesn’t and why or why not. I don’t stick to one brand either, I think a true artist dabbles with a lot of different products. Knowing ones undertones will help determine what color based foundation you should choose for best results. It's ideal to determine this first before starting a makeup application. What colors will look best with their eye color, what lipstick will stand out with their skin tone, is their skin more golden or more olive, or is it more red. All these questions you should automatically be thinking about and answering before you start, knowing the basics will help a makeup artist to really slay an application.
If your eyes are the windows to your soul, then the brows on your face are the perfect “window-dressing”. A great set of brows frames your face and eyes perfectly, makes you look more awake and refreshed, and gives you a more youthful overall appearance. Look more awake, refreshed, and younger?!? We say, yes please!
If you don’t love your brows, you’re not alone. As soon as we added microblading to our menu of services, WE were first in line to experience this amazing procedure. With age (we’re like a fine wine!), over-plucking (oh, Twiggy!), health issues, even genetics – many factors can rob you of the perfect brow. So not fair!
If you spend any time (at all) attempting to pencil-in, powder, or enhance your brows with brow mascara (or all the above, we’ve been there, done that); you know that the daily brow improving process can be super time-consuming, frustrating, and prone to a result that is ALL wrong.
So here it is, the answer to experiencing brow nirvana, saving huge amounts of time, and eliminating the need for constant plucking, shaping and upkeep is: microblading.
Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure that involves using a small hand tool with a row of tiny needles, which create micro incisions where pigment is then applied; resulting in natural-looking feather-like brow “hairs”. The procedure fills in gaps and augments brow shaping; all through the application of pigment into the tiny incisions, resulting in the appearance of beautiful and natural-looking brows.
Sound a little scary? We thought so too, but we learned quickly, once we tried it ourselves, that with just *a little discomfort*, there is HUGE gain. We couldn’t stop looking at our brows after they were done. It was like… brow magic!

The Capital Lash & Beauty Team
One of the most common questions people ask me is, "how long do eyelash extensions last?" While it varies for every person, they typically "last" about 3 - 4 weeks. However, to maintain them well and keep them looking like you just had them done, I recommend going in for a "fill" every 2 - 3 weeks.
Since not everyone has the time or money to get them touched up constantly, there are some tips that I live by, to help my lashes look amazing for as long as possible! They're basic, but oh so important. So, without further with-do, here's my top five tricks to keep your lashes looking fresh for longer...
1. Avoid getting them wet for the first 48 hours
At your appointment, your lash artist will tell you to keep your lashes dry (**no shower, sauna, workout...) for the first 24 - 48 hours. Even though you can get them wet after 24 hours, to make double-sure the adhesive is dry through and through, I wait at least 48 hours to get them wet. This sounds nasty pretty quickly when you realize it means no shower for 2 days! So, this leads me to point number two...
2. Shower the night before/morning of your lash appointment
One mistake I made my first time, and will NEVER make again, is not washing my hair the day I had my lashes done. I thought that I'd do the good ol' dry shampoo fix for one more day, and wash it the next without getting my eyes wet. What I didn't think about was that a shower means steam and steam can loosen the adhesive.
3. Avoid wearing eye makeup
This might seem a little dramatic because you can wear eyeshadow, eyeliner and some people even say very light, non-waterproof mascara. However, with lash extensions on, my eyes look amazing without anything else. And, who doesn't love taking less time on their makeup in the morning? I know I do!! Having lash extensions cuts my makeup time in half... No, seriously! And I am not complaining about it :)
4. Brush your lashes morning and night
Just like you brush your teeth or your hair (at least) twice a day, brush your lashes in the morning and at night. When you get your lashes done, the last artist will send you home with a mini lash brush. It looks like an eyebrow brush, but for your lashes. I make it part of my beauty routine and keep my lash brush near my hairbrush and toothbrush, so I remember at least twice a day. This is so important as it will keep them detangled and looking like you just had them done!
5. Sleep on your back
Sleeping on your back helps the lashes to stay in place and not become deformed and clumped as you sleep. If you don't usually sleep on your back, this one might be the hardest of them all. Since I'm 50/50 between being a back and side sleeper, I've had to work with this trick a bit to make it comfortable and still safe for my lashes. One way to cheat sleeping on your side is to ensure your eyes hang off the pillow. Sounds uncomfortable, right? I thought it would be too, but I don't even notice the difference!
So, those are my top 5 tricks to making eyelash extensions look fabulous between fills. Do you have any tips and tricks to making your lash extensions last? If so, I'd love to hear about them in the comment section below!
